Boutique Hotel Casa San Blas wants to collaborate with the communities near the city of Cusco, bringing joy and a better quality of life for its residents.  Our first priority will be the community of Yanamayo.

Yanamayo is located at 3800 m.a.s.l. in Abra de Malaga, one of the coldest places near Cusco. The only way to get to this community is by car, a trip which only takes 3 hours, thanks to a newly built road.

Though this is an isolated community, you will find as many as 100 families living in this area, scattered high among the mountains. There are close to 150 children between the ages of 01 and 15 years and approximately 180 adults under the age of 65. They live “scattered” as opposed to next door to one another as they build their homes close to the their potato crops. This is a source of livelihood for them as it is the only crop that can grow at this altitude.

Due to the precariousness and lack of educational material, children attend school once a week, impacting the rate at which they can learn.

Our ideology is to keep alive the culture of this community, their traditions, their values and way of life. We also want to provide a better quality of life through education so they can have improved life opportunities and a striving chance at survival. We are looking to help them maintain a healthy balance between their culture, their past and the pressures of modern society.

We have to understand, respect and support them!

In our strive to aid this community we also want to be environmentally aware and  being careful not to cause further pollution through the use of plastic bags, bottles, batteries, candies, etc.

So any donations need to be environmentally friendly and re-usable.

They would also appreciate clothing donations, but they must be for interior use only. This way it does not alter their typical way of dressing. They would need: thin sweaters, thermal shirts, towels, blankets, all preferably in small sizes for children in between 9 months to 12 years. Adults are also on the small side and use small to medium sizes.)

Volunteers. We will be delighted to have your company when we do our campaigns, to play with the children, distribute gifts and to share with them and give them a moment of joy!.
