Review of Casa San Blas Boutique Hotel
Location:
Located on a hill in the San Blas area of Cusco, you are near touristy shopping, food, and the market square at Cusco Cathedral. The area is safe and clean, and pretty easy to navigate. We were taken to the hotel by a car provided by a travel agency.
Rooms:
The rooms are clean and well-maintained. The bathroom was equipped with a blow-dryer, shampoo, conditioner (this is rare for a hotel), and bar soaps. All products were lemongrass-scented, which is my favorite. There are complimentary water bottles in the room, for teeth-brushing. As is the case everywhere in the country, you should not drink the tap water or flush toilet paper (a waste basket is provided, of course).
The beds were comfortable and provided for a good night’s sleep.
As is the case in most hotels, noise from the hall can be heard in the room, for this reason, I think, to be polite, travelers should avoid being noisy in the halls.
Staff:
The real treat was the knock on the door, around 1800h, to offer us heating pads (hot water-filled bottles) and Iberica chocolates. This was my favorite feature in a hotel anywhere. Thank you for that. Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and kindly spoke English, when our Spanish failed us. Check-in and check-out were without complications.
Water:
The hotel makes potable (drinking) water available in the lobby, to refill your water bottles day and night. Hot water for brewing teas is also available.
Coca Tea:
Coca leaves are on display in the lobby, for your tea-drinking please. While the tea is advertised as a remedy for elevation sickness, you should abstain from drinking coca tea, if you are subject to drug tests at work.
Breakfast:
Breakfast was included with the stay. The buffet was continental, but warm egg dishes could be ordered from the server.
